Munafiq

From what I recall in the recent horror movie that I was forced to watch because my little brother was too scared to watch by himself called Munafiq, (Basically, I covered my eyes the whole time only to read the subtitles. I tend to get recurring nightmares after watching such movies so you can only imagine how much my weak heart was struggling to hold itself what with Nabila Huda’s realistic acting and terrorizing voices possessed by demons and my brother’s screeching whenever a ghost comes on screen), a munafiq is someone whose actions contradict to his words and what is in his heart. In general, they are commonly known as hypocrites or two-faced.
Be it preachers,  people hiding behind the masks of religion, leaders, and even close friends whom you never thought would backstab you, they all have their reasons to become a wolf in a sheep clothing, and most of their reasons would ultimately revolve around materialistic gain that life could offer. In the history of Islam, it is proven that hypocrites are the worst kind of people who penetrate into the society of the believers and act as if they are one of them to topple the strong foundation of Islam and plot against the believers, for instance, Mustafa Kamal Ataturk, who disbanded the very last Khalifah institution , the Turki Uthmaniyyah, by injecting secularism into the heart of the institution. From banning the azan and head covers, to changing all the Holy Quran into Turkish and banning the Arabic version of the Quran, it is an explicit discrimination and oppression to Muslims whose daily life are restricted. Another issue that grabs my attention is the Rohingya tribe’s mass genocide and exploitation that know neither human rights nor compassion. It just yanks my heart when I see most Buddhist monks supporting the act akin to holocaust. They are the supposedly ambassadors of peace and compassion as known from the teaching of Buddha but because of sheer ignorance and hatred of the whole nation towards the Rohingya tribe, they dismissed the wrongdoing.
Nonetheless, I have very little almost zero to none respect and tolerance for hypocrites and liars. I would rather be known in life as an honest sinner than a lying hypocrite. Religion leaders should not hide behind the mask of religion to verify their wrongdoing, they should realise their social responsibility and their influence over the society could as much change the society’s perception. Even in Islamic society nowadays we can see promises being broken easily, fights being dragged and exaggerated to the point of killing and hurting each other over petty things, liars lie openly as if their words are taken granted for and false news are spread like the wind. These people are subjected to Allah’s grievous penalty because of their hypocrisy and unfaithfulness. Therefore, a note to self and those who are reading this, let’s be a true Muslim and protect ourselves from falling into the cauldron of hypocrites.
